Welcome to the CANECSA & SAZ Annual Scientific Conference 2026.

Hosted by the Society of Anaesthesiologists of Zambia (SAZ) in partnership with the College of Anaesthesiologists of East, Central and Southern Africa (CANECSA), the conference will bring together healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, trainees, and industry partners to exchange knowledge, showcase research, and advance excellence in anaesthesia and critical care.

Conference Theme

“Along the Patient Pathway: Building Systems for Safe Anaesthesia and Critical Care”

This year’s theme focuses on strengthening healthcare systems, advancing patient safety, and promoting innovation throughout the perioperative and critical care journey.

Scientific Sub-Themes

The Scientific Committee welcomes discussions, research, and innovations under the following thematic areas:

Abstract Submission Guidelines 

Authors are invited to submit original scientific abstracts relevant to the conference theme. Abstracts should be written in clear, concise English and should not exceed the prescribed word limit (typically 250–300 words). The submission should present unpublished work and accurately summarize the research.

The abstract should include the following components:

  • Title: A concise and informative title reflecting the study.
  • Background: Briefly describe the research problem, its significance, and the knowledge gap.
  • Objective(s): Clearly state the aim(s) of the study.
  • Methods: Summarize the study design, setting, participants, data collection methods, and analytical approach.
  • Results: Present the principal findings, including key quantitative or qualitative outcomes where applicable.
  • Conclusion: Highlight the main conclusions, implications, and recommendations based on the findings.
  • Keywords: Provide 3–5 relevant keywords.

 

Abstracts should explained abbreviations unless otherwise specified by the conference. All submissions should adhere to the prescribed formatting requirements and demonstrate scientific rigor, originality, clarity, and relevance to the conference theme. Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the submitted information and compliance with applicable ethical standards, including approval by relevant ethics committees where required.
